Purpose of the SBE Board of Directors

The SBE Board of Directors assists in promoting laws and regulations which benefit both the construction industry and the public; to foster and maintain high standards of quality, ethics and fair dealing by and between all persons engaged in the construction industry. The Board enhances public awareness of the economic value and public benefit of the construction industry; to establish and information, education, and mutual benefits. In addition, the Board acts as a medium for adjusting differences in the industry and to cooperate with all segments of the construction industry in common goals for the betterment of the industry.

Community Fund Board

Board History

The Shasta Builders’ Exchange and the construction industry have a long history of being involved in the community. By the very nature of the business, we are frequently asked to build various community projects.

In 1997 the Board of Directors authorized the formation of a new corporation to serve as a nonprofit charitable foundation. Titled the SBE Community Fund and governed by members of the Exchange, its focus is to provide college scholarships to children of Exchange members and sponsor various community projects.

Board Members

Scholarships

The SBE Community Fund was established in 1997 to support the youth of Exchange members who wish to utilize the educational system as a means of obtaining the goals they have set for themselves.

The SBE Community Fund Scholarship is open to the children of owners or key employees of regular members firms in good standing. A written recommendation from the firm’s owner must accompany applications from children of key employees. Application for scholarship funds may be made by students entering or continuing enrollment in a university, college, community college or trade school.

Selection of recipients is based on transcripts (GPA, SAT), achievements and leadership qualities. All finalists undergo a personal interview. The amount of money available is determined at the time the recipients are chosen. Scholarship money is distributed directly to the students upon receiving proofs of enrollment.

Community Projects

Take a look around Redding, and in every direction, you can find projects built voluntarily by the construction industry. For years the industry has donated time and resources to make Redding a better place to live and work. Each year the Board evaluates any number of community projects and select the ones that best reflect the mission of the organization. Here are some examples of Shasta Builders’ Exchange community projects:

  • Walk in either direction on the River Trail and you’ll come across restroom facilities built by our members.

  • Built the “set” at KRCR for the academic Challenge where area high school students compete for scholarships.

  • Built the Carnegie Stage in Library Park, contributing to the success of Marketfest.

  • The flagpoles at the new Redding Civic Center were purchased by the SBE Community Fund.

  • Built and raffled a quarter of a million dollar house and raised $400,000 for the Turtle Bay Park and Museum.

Political Action Committee

Committee Purpose

  • To promote and strive for the improvement of government by encouraging and stimulating the construction industry and their associations and others to take a more active and effective part in governmental affairs.

  • To encourage the construction industry and their associates and others to understand the nature and actions of their government, and to inform them as to the records of local office-holders and candidates for elective office.

  • To assist the construction industry, their associates, personnel, and others in organizing themselves for more effective political action and for carrying out their other civic responsibilities..

  • To encourage maximum participation in political affairs of other organizations having concerns common to the construction industry. To support local candidates for election to City, County, State and National political offices, to the local elected boards, and other public offices.

  • To work for the appointment of objective-minded individuals to local Boards and Commissions.

  • To support legislative matters that would be of concern to the construction industry.

  • To support the activities of other organizations who support the activities of other organizations who support the goals of the construction industry.

  • To raise funds for the support of these objectives.

  • The purpose of the Shasta BEPAC is to promote the significant role of the building industry to the elected officials and the community, and to create a political climate in the north state that encourages profitable building through decreased regulation and lower fees; as well as more governmental accountability, transparency and efficiency.

How does BEPAC work?

BEPAC consists of a committee, who represents all trades in the industry. The committee operates objectively on behalf of the members of our association; prioritizing on what is true, honorable and right for the industry and the community.

The committee interviews and then makes recommendations to the Shasta Builders’ Exchange Board of Directors on which candidates to support based on the candidate’s voting record on issues important to the building industry, the candidate’s leadership position, and the candidate’s understanding of the issues builders face and their readiness to assist when these issues arise.

Voice of The Industry

Shasta Builders’ Exchange members become part of a powerful and respected advocate. BEPAC is committed to build strong relationships at the local government level that benefit our members, our industry, and most importantly our community. We collaborate with Shasta Voices in developing data driven policy solutions that bolster our economy. Our focus is on building consensus around solution-oriented proposals. BEPAC meets with local government elected officials and senior-level staff to discuss policy issues affecting the industry and to advocate for our policy positions.

Value of BEPAC

Without BEPAC, decisions affecting the future of the industry will be influenced by other industries and voluntary contributions of our membership that BEPAC can help preserve a positive political climate for the building and development industry in the north state.
